As summer approaches, there is no better time or opportunity for young people to test out their talents and passions with a side hustle. A side hustle is a great way for teens to earn some extra cash and learn some very important life skills along the way. A great way for teens to create a side hustle is to use their talents and passions to enter the gig economy.

The gig economy is a market for creatives to get paid for doing what they do best — being creative. It’s essentially a space for creatives to turn their passions and talents into a side hustle. Like any market, of course, there are pros and cons. A gig hustle requires a time commitment and access to any resources needed to pursue the hustle. It’s not a “get rich quick” play, rather it’s the beginning of learning to grow a business or developing skills that will help in future careers.

Learning to apply the entrepreneurial mindset (I talk more about the power of the entrepreneurial mindset here) to a gig hustle can hold a lot of value. Using the entrepreneurial mindset in a gig hustle can help you develop important life skills that prepare you for college and careers that are not covered in typical in-school or out-school programs. Essentially, a gig side hustle can be the first step to setting yourself up for success.
